George W. Hyde, 84, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Church of God Home, Carlisle.
Born March 18, 1927 in United, PA, he was a son of the late George D. and Marjorie Smith Hyde.
George loved to play golf and was known for his gardening, particularly his tomatoes. He was proud of the wine that he made and loved to share it with others.  George loved to read and enjoyed engaging in conversation.   George was an avid Steelers fan.  He proudly served his country during WWII in the Merchant Marines and also during the Korean Conflict in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Surviving are his wife of   57 years, Arlene Hyde of Carlisle; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Grosh of Parsippany, NJ and Nancy Wilkes (and husband, Gerald) of Carlisle; one brother, Stuart Hyde (and wife, Ruth) of Georgia; one sister, Beverly (and husband, Wyndham) of VA; one granddaughter, Emma Rishel and two step-grandsons, Andrew Wilkes and Scott Wilkes. 
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011at Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle with Rev. Jeffrey W. Gibelius and Rev. Jennifer J. McKenna co-officiating.  A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013.
