George P. Waricher, age 86, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his home.
He was born April 5, 1931 in Orefield, PA to the late Peter and Anna (Papp) Waricher.
George graduated with a BS in Art Education from Kutztown State College, a Masters in Art Education from Miami University, Oxford, OH and did his Doctoral work at Ball State University, Muncie, IN and Penn State University. He taught in the Carlisle Area School System from 1955-1963 and then at Shippensburg University from 1963 until his retirement in 2000. George was an award-winning artist and was a frequent exhibitor including at the Allenberry Playhouse, Shippensburg University and the Carlisle Arts Learning Center. He served on the board at the Carlisle Historical Architectural Review Board and was a Guest Curator for the Cumberland County Historical Society Church Exhibit. George was a member of the Carlisle Art Association and was a Juried Member of the PA Guild of Craftsman. He was a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice (Beltzhoover) Waricher; a son, Michael J. Waricher; and a brother, John G. Waricher. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Grason, Anne Lambeth, Michael Waricher, Helen VanFleet, Earl Waricher, Margaret Schantz and Mildred M. Jones.
In accordance with George’s wishes, there will not be any services or visitation. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
