George P. Martin, 79 of Roxbury, PA formerly of Newville, died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at home. Born February 23, 1935 in Carlisle, PA son of the late Kenneth R. and Elizabeth K. Hoover Martin.
He was a graduate of Carlisle, High School, class of 1955. He worked for many years at C.H. Masland and Sons. He was a member of the Shippensburg Independent Baptist Church, Shippensburg, and a former member of Great Hope Baptist Church, Carlisle.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Geneva L. Barrick Martin, his five children, Carol A. Nelson, Camp Hill, Cindy E. Holtry and her companion Thomas D. Hockenberry, Newville, Karen Gillespie, Kingsland, GA, George K. Martin, Roxbury, and Michael A. and his wife Cathy, White Oak, GA, one step daughter, Wanda K. Barrick Armold, wife of Ronald L. Armold, Newville. Eighteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren; and four step great-great grandchildren. Three siblings, Elizabeth A. Hoover, Liverpool, Joseph R. and his wife Bette Martin, Newville and Ruth A. Gerhardt and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings James, R., Kenneth L., Charles H. and Annie J. Martin Showaker, one step grandson and one great grandson
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., American Diabetes Assoc. or Shippensburg Independent Baptist Church, PO Box 363, Shippensburg, PA .
Arrangements will be handled by Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2109 North Hanover Street, Carlisle.
Private graveside services will be held at Salem Stone Church Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Kenneth Waggoner, at the convenience of the family.
