George D. Rife, age 74, of Newville, PA passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 3, 1941 in Newville to the late Dallas W. and Georgia (Peffer) Rife.
George was a retired Corrections Officer with the Cumberland County Prison System. He was a former truck driver and safety coordinator for C.H. Masland & Sons of Carlisle. He enjoyed watching hockey (especially the Ottawa Senators), was an avid hunter, was a Civil War buff and enjoyed high school wrestling. He was a member of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly A. (Verow) Rife of Newville; three sons, Michael T. (and wife Kathy) Clepper of Shippensburg, Timothy S. (and wife Mary) Clepper of Sumter, SC and Mark R. Clepper and companion Vicki Mitsdarfer of Enola; two brothers, David L. (and wife Nancy) Rife of Newville and Dallas W. II (and wife Judy) Rife of Newville; six grandchildren, Kaylee, Cody, Lucas, Madison, Katlyn and Hayley; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Skylar. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Griffie.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Westminster Cemetery, 1159 Newville Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Clark C. Dunkle officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033, the Upper Frankford Twp. Volunteer Fire Co., 4080 Enola Road, Newville, PA 17241 or to the Friendship Hose Co. #1, 15 E. Big Spring Avenue, PO Box 218, Newville, PA 17241.
