Geneva B. Politzer

Geneva Beth Politzer, 67, of Carlisle, died June 29, 2019 in her home from the debilitating disease, Multiple Systems Atrophy. She was born on December 1, 1951 in Northampton, Massachusetts. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents. Dr. Frank Politzer and Judith (Wasser) Politzer, her beloved son, Michael Politzer and her brother, Gary Politzer. She is survived by her cherished sons, Stephen Politzer-Ahles in Hong Kong and David Politzer-Ahles in Denver, Colorado. She also leaves behind her twin brother, Stephen Politzer of California, her dear friend, Tom Vernon, and many other friends.
Geneva spent most of her childhood in the San Francisco Bay area. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Fresno and a Master’s Degree from the University of California, Davis. She served in the Army as a Journalist from 1978 to 1982. Geneva became a writer for American History Illustrated after her time in the service. She held many other jobs throughout her life, including the role she loved best, that of a mother.
Geneva began composing poetry at the age of nine. She wrote hundreds of poems throughout her life and recently had a book of poems published entitled, Words, Words, Words. She enjoyed cooking and baking and for a time, operated her own business, Bread on the Rise, selling homemade bread. She found great pleasure in gardening and floral design. She was also an avid knitter who fashioned many clothes for family and friends.
Geneva was a life-long Unitarian Universalist. She was a charter member of the Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley in Boiling Springs (UUCV). She adored singing in the church choir, served as a Worship Associate and volunteered in many other capacities at UUCV. Geneva was a very generous person. She opened her home to many people, including hikers from the Appalachian Trail. Her trail name, “Mother Hen”, revealed her kind-hearted nature. A few years ago, she welcomed a Buddhist Monk from Sri Lanka into her home, creating a starting point for what is now the Blue Lotus Temple of Carlisle. Geneva will be remembered as an outgoing, free spirited person who enjoyed life to its fullest.
A celebration of life service will take place on Sunday, July 21, 2:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley (UUCV), 2 Forge Road, Boiling Springs, 17007. In honor of Geneva’s favorite red hat, attendees are asked to wear a splash of red to the service. A reception will follow the service. At 5:30 pm, family and friends are invited to meet at the parking lot off Michaux Rd/Bunkerhill Rd. in Pine Grove Furnace State Park for a short hike from Michaux Rd. to Sunset Rocks for a small ceremony.
