Gayle K. "Mal" Sheaffer, 82, of Middlesex Township passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Born in Boiling Springs on March 5, 1931, Gayle was the only daughter of Mildred (Wise) and Oren Negley.
Gayle graduated from Boiling Springs High School and went on to work for Sheaffer Brothers in Carlisle. She married Kenny in August of 1952 and shortly after they began to build their dream home where Gayle continued to reside for the next sixty years.
Gayle was a gifted vocalist and as a young woman often sang at weddings. For years she was the soloist at First United Methodist in Carlisle. One of the highlights of her singing career was performing at the Allenberry Playhouse. Gayle was most proud of her home and family. She was a great cook and she loved celebrating Christmas, showering loved ones with gifts and her famous cookies. Gayle had a genuine love for all animals and faithfully began each morning with a prayer while feeding her birds and squirrels.
Gayle is survived by her son, Randy L. Sheaffer and his wife, Carol of Earleville, MD; her dear daughter, Sandy Sheaffer of Lincoln University, PA; granddaughters, Aleksandra and her husband, Dan of Lincoln University, PA; Mary Paige of Wilmington, DE and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Colton. In addition to her parents and husband, Kenneth, her brothers Loren and Lynn Negley predeceased her. Gayle lovingly cared for her mother-in-law, Florence, until her death in 1995.
Services will be held in Gayle's honor at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Pastor Mira Hewlett officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle.
