Gary L. Voegele

Gary Lee Voegele, born in Danbury, CT on Sept 10. 1948, passed away after a long illness on April 26, 2019, joining his wife Nancy in Heaven. Predeceased by his parents Albin and Viola Voegele of Sebastian Florida, Gary leaves behind his two children Lee Voegele, Camp Hill Pennsylvania and Sandra Shaefer (Chris), Canastota New York. Two grandchildren Sara Shaefer, Oneida New York and Christian Shaefer, Richfield Springs New York, his two brothers David Voegele-Albin (Lois), Vermont and Jeffrey Voegele, Florida. He also leaves behind, his extra kids Kate, Jerome, Christine, & Marika, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary developed a love of horses at a young age and spent much of his youth riding at a local horse stable, working at the movie theater to afford his own horse. He spoke often of Patches, GG & her foal and the fun he had with them. In 1970 Gary graduated from the State University of New York, Cobleskill with an Agricultural Associate Degree in Applied Sciences. After his graduation, he took his love of animals with him when he joined the Army and served the majority of his service as a Veterinary Technician in Germany. Upon leaving the service, Gary attended the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School and began working on various horse farms. Eventually leaving horse farms behind, Gary worked for Harness Horse Magazine and produced Card Pack mailers for the industry.
Gary was a people person and eventually this moved him towards becoming a realtor. He spent 20 years doing his best to find the right home for each person he worked with. He retired from real estate in 2006 to care for his wife Nancy through the last days of her battle with ALS.
After Nancy passed away he did not want to go back to Real Estate and instead indulged his love of the movies (Mary Poppins was one of his all-time favorites) and he began acting. He had roles in several small independent films and enjoyed himself immensely until poor health forced him to stop.
Gary has battled various health issues for the last 5 years and stubbornly hung on longer than anyone thought possible. He was well-known for always having a joke and doing whatever he could to make people smile (especially if it looked like they were having a bad day). He will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved him. While we are deeply saddened by his passing, we are grateful that his suffering is at an end and he is once more together with Mom, asking for her homemade bread and trying in vain to beat Grandpa at golf.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
