Gary Lee Nicholson, age 69, of Carlisle, died May 11, 2018 at The Gardens at West Shore in Camp Hill, PA.
He was born September 18, 1948, in Carlisle, PA to the late Catherine Mary Nicholson and the late Paul Roland Nicholson, and was the widower of the late Mary E. Nicholson (nee Yeager), who passed on April 20, 2015.
Gary graduated from Carlisle High School, Class of 1966 and then went on to Messiah College where he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970. Gary was an insurance consultant and loved working at the County Commissioner’s Association in Risk Control, from which he retired in 2015. He was a disciple of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle where he served as an assistant minister, lector, communion server, and assistant, as well as a member of the Church Counsel. Gary was also a firefighter, formerly serving as Chief of the Friendship Fire Company in Carlisle, as well as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Carlisle Fire Department. He specifically enjoyed presenting trainings for the next generation of firefighters.
Gary is survived by: a son, Ethan Yeager Nicholson, of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Kami E. Greenawalt; an aunt, Mariam Genevieve Lindale; and cousin Debbie Cole, both of Felton DE.
The funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther St., Carlisle, PA 17013, with the Reverend Robert W. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd. Carlisle, PA 17013.
