Galen Wilbur George, 80, of Carlisle, died Friday, February 15, 2013 in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born October 31, 1932 in Newville, he was a son of the late Cloyd W. and Ethel Mae Burkholder George.
He retired as a waste water treatment plant operator at the New Cumberland Army Depot. He was a member of the American Legion Post #421, Newville. Galen was an active member of the First Church of the Brethren, Carlisle. He coached Little League for many years and played softball in the Over 50 League. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Air Force. Galen was a fan of the Washington Redskins and spent nearly every day at Dickinson College when the Redskins training camp was here.
Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Carol Flint George of Carlisle; one son, John Galen George of Carlisle; one sister, Patsy G. Myers (and husband, Eldon) of Carlisle; and two brothers, Dale George, Sr. (and wife, Verna) of Carlisle and Cloyd W. George (and wife, Kim) of Port Charlotte, FL. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Clover Mae McLaughlin and four brothers: Charles, Chester, Glenn, and Roy George.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Jim Abe officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
