Frederick Anthony Thaler, 74 of Carlisle, died Sunday July 10, 2011 in his home.
Born August 13, 1936 in Carlisle, the son of the late Fred and Marie Kappes Thaler.
Mr. Thaler was a US Army Veteran serving as Chief Warrant Officer with 25 years of service, serving in the Korean Conflict and three tours during the Vietnam War. Fred was a Special Forces Green Beret and he earned five bronze stars and many other commendations. He graduated from Baylor University, TX. Former commander of the VFW Post 477, Carlisle, member of the Cumberland County Honor Guard. After retiring from the military as a physicians assistant, he was a physician assistant working at Perry Health Center, Dunham Army Clinic, Carlisle Barracks and Sadler Health Center, Carlisle. Faithful member of Church of Christ, Carlisle. Fred loved his wife, family and his grandchildren. He cherished every moment with his family.
Surviving are his wife of over 20 years, Suzanne Kreaps Thaler, Carlisle, a daughter, Virginia Thaler, South Carolina, two stepsons, Dustin M. Strine and his wife Jennifer, Carlisle and Corey A. Strine and his wife Brynn A., York, seven grandchildren, Taylor, Hennessy, Meadow, Isabella, Harrison, Jeffrey and Justin. He was preceded in death by a sister Genevieve Oberlin.
Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Saturday July 16, 2011 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle, with Minister Tony Tarole officiating. Burial will be at Ft. Indiantown Gap, Annville at the convenience of the family with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a visitation from 1:00 pm Saturday until the time of the service in the funeral home.
