Fred Davidson Oyler, 95, died on Friday, August 18, 2023, at his home in Carlisle, PA. He was born 11 a.m. on November 11, 1927 in Chambersburg to the late Andrew Paul and Mary Grace Davidson Oyler. Fred graduated from Newville High School in 1945 and then served in the U.S. Navy for one year. He later graduated from Dickinson College in 1950 and Wharton Graduate School in 1951.
Fred retired in late 1989 from E. I. DuPont de Nemours & Company following a lengthy career in international finance, including a ten-year posting in Japan and Switzerland and subsequent extensive travel throughout Asia-Pacific.
Fred's passion for antiques became more than just a hobby when he retired from DuPont. He and his late wife Maxine Hassler Oyler had been collecting unique pieces since they got married, and Fred's expertise in the field led him to opening the Old Stone Tavern antique shop. Just six weeks ago, he enjoyed one final trip to a local antique shop.
Fred's interests extended beyond antiques. He was a people person who thrived on engaging conversations and building connections. Even after Maxine's passing, he continued to host gatherings for his family and friends, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy.
In his later years, Fred relied more and more on his faith and personal relationship with Christ. He never stopped learning and growing, even when his eyesight failed him. He wore out multiple cd players listening to teachings and gospel music.
He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Hassler Oyler, siblings Andrew James Oyler, John Eugene Oyler, Evelyn Mae Oyler, and grandson Daniel Scot Oyler.
Surviving are son Thomas Scot Oyler and wife Elizabeth Blosser Oyler, of Boiling Springs; daughter Susan Kim Oyler Reutter and husband Steven, of Carlisle; son Ted Davidson Oyler and wife June Singletary Oyler, of Kennett Square, PA.; son Timothy Hassler Oyler, of Palm Springs, CA., numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister-in-law Carole Jo Hassler Heusner, of Carlisle, and two Heusner nephews.
