Franklin Shields, age 91, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center, Carlisle.
He was born July 6, 1925 in Orrstown to the late Benjamin N. and Naomi G.(Tarner) Shields and was the widower of Esther Irene (McKee) Shields.
Franklin worked for Carlisle Tire & Rubber and retired from the maintenance department at Dickinson College. He enjoyed Phillies baseball, watching westerns, especially those with John Wayne, and driving his Amish and Mennonite friends where they needed to go.
He is survived by: step-sons, Leonard R. Sr. (and wife Bonnie) McKee of Newville, David B. Shields of Carlisle and Robert L. Shields of Shippensburg; son-in-law, Earl Crum, Sr.; four grandchildren, Leonard, Jr. (and wife Rebecca) McKee of Newville, Tina (and husband Scott) Leidigh of Carlisle, Earl Crum, Jr. of Newville and Dwayne Crum of Newville; many loving great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Shields and Loretta Mae Baer, both of Carlisle. In addition to his parents and wife, Franklin was preceded in death by: a daughter, Robin E. Crum; two sisters, Anna Mary Martin and Naomi Baer; two brothers, Chester and Harold Shields; and two step-brothers, Charles N. and Nelson B. Shields.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
