My mother, Frances Catherine Porsi (Rosado) 90, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2014. She is survived by me, her son, Louis J. Porsi Jr. and preceded in death by her sister, Antoinette Cimorelli, of Elmont, NY.
Frances was born in Brooklyn, NY. When I was very young, she was forced to seek work and became a typist after her ex-Marine husband left her in the late 1950s, and stopped paying court-ordered alimony. Thankfully, her sister Ann (Nini) and their Mother (Nani) were able to assist her in raising her only child. She and Nini were inseparable, never living more than a mile apart. Mom looked timid at four foot eleven, but she was feisty and would challenge anyone who looked at her son the wrong way.
She was a simple woman who loved cats, and she had many over the years. She enjoyed the cross-country trip she took with her family to California and back. Musically, she loved Johnny Mathis, Lawrence Welk and of course, Elvis. Later, she listened to country music by Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and George Straight. Mom loved her sweets, including dark chocolate, strawberry shortcake, Italian cream puffs and pastries, and her favorite meal was stuffed shells.
She was loved by everyone who knew her, especially the staff at Manor Care in Carlisle, and no one was more important to her happiness than her son. My wife Alexandra and I will miss her dearly.
