Frances Carol (Sodoski) Ryan, a long-time resident of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the age of 83.
Fran was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1935 to the late Vincent and Nellie (Baltrusaitis) Sodoski. After high school, Fran graduated from the School of Nursing at the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (now part of Drexel University) in 1955 as a registered nurse. She became a flight attendant for National Airlines flying out of Miami for the next seven years, which allowed her to travel around the world. She married Dino James Bakeris in April 1962 in New York City and had one son. For the next thirty years, Fran was a nurse, working at various medical institutions or teaching at universities. In 1978, she earned her master’s degree in nursing from Columbia University in New York City. She retired from Crawford & Company in 1995 where she was a medical case manager for worker’s compensation claims.
Fran enjoyed gardening in the warmer months and large jigsaw puzzles spread across her dining room table when it got colder. She always looked forward to her monthly card games with her dear close friends.
She is survived by her son, Dean Bakeris, and her beloved grandson, Zachary Bakeris. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Sodoski (wife Marianne) of Wilkes-Barre, and many nieces and nephews. Her three sisters, Martha Letukas, Agnes Tasco, and Sophie Petro, all preceded her in death in 2002.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Saint Patrick Church, 87 Marsh Drive in Carlisle with Father Joshua Cavender officiating.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Asana Hospice and Fran’s dedicated and compassionate caregivers who made her comfortable during the past few years.
