Florence I. Austin

Florence I. Austin, 98, of Carlisle, PA formerly of Wilkes-Barre, PA and the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. William R. Austin died on Friday, May 10, 2019 in the Church of God Home, Carlisle, PA. Florence resided the summer months in Jonestown (Columbia County). While residing in the Church of God Home, Florence lived independently for three years and in the skilled area also for three years.
Florence retired as an Executive Secretary with the Dept. of Interior, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, after 38 years of service.
She was a member of the Luzerne United Methodist Church in Luzerne, PA and the Jonestown United Methodist Church in Orangeville, PA. While she attended these two churches’ she was very, very active. Florence was former President of the Hobby Sunday School Class and former President of the United Methodist Women; Member of the Courtdale United Methodist Women, serving as Membership Chair Person; Member of Forty Fort United Methodist Women; and member of the Friends of PA United Methodist Homes for the aging at Wesley Village; Member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; Member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #90, Wilkes-Barre; Charter Member of the New Columbus Academy Association; Life member of the Homes Guild of the Wyoming Conference; Member of the Kingston Senior Citizens; Former Lay Member of the Wyoming Conference of the United Methodist Church; Former treasurer and Membership Chair Person of the Wilkes-Barre District Women’s Society Christian Service; Former Member of the “Over 50” Club of the Town Hill United Methodist Church and Associate Secretary of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Florence is survived by her loving niece, Alice R. Franklin and her husband Jay of Carlisle, PA, two great nieces, Sara Franklin and her fiancé Jason Owens, Allegra M. Juday and her husband Richard and her great great nephew, Ricky.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Church of God Home 801 N. Hanover St. Carlisle, PA. Officiating will be the Rev. Bruce Fensterbush and Rev. Bradley Moore. There will be a visitation at the Chapel on from 10:30 AM until the time of services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
