Fay Louise H. Sheaffer, age 94, of Carlisle, passed Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Church of God Home in Carlisle,
She was born August 18, 1921 in Upper Mifflin Township on Whiskey Spring Road. She was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Anna Mae Fry Hoover and was the widow of the late John E. Sheaffer, Sr. who passed January 28, 2009 after 60 years of marriage.
She was a graduate of Newville High School, Class of 1940. She was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church. Fay was the oldest of 10 children growing up living on the family farm. She loved all her family and kept close ties with multiple generations throughout her life. She was a very accomplished seamstress working from her home most of her life. She was known for her keen memory until her final days. Fay helped raise four generations, taking care of her siblings, son, grandson and great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her son, John E. Sheaffer Jr. and wife Brenda Hare Sheaffer of Carlisle; a grandson, Christopher John Sheaffer of Carlisle; a great-granddaughter, Audi Mareigh Sheaffer of Carlisle; two sisters, Jane Boldosser and Joan Wagner, both of Carlisle; and fifteen nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by three brothers, Lynn E., Paul F. and Donald L. Hoover; four sisters, Dorothy Bloser, Shirley Kingsborough, Anna Mae Anderson and Chloe Watts; two nephews; and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with her Pastor, Rev. Mira A. Hewlitt officiating. Interment will be at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 South West Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
