Ezel James Manuel, Jr, 66 years old, of Shippensburg, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at his residence.
He was born September 16, 1948 in Philadelphia to the late James and Gertrude Manuel, Sr.
After graduating from high school, Ezel enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he was deployed to Vietnam. During his time there, from October 1966 to July 1967, he participated in over 20 separate campaigns against the North Vietnamese Army. He received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and a Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon. After leaving the Marines in 1968, he returned to Philadelphia to work as a police officer with the Philadelphia City Police Force where he retired. He belonged to St. Peters AME Church, American Legion Post 223 and VFW Post 6168 all in Shippensburg.
He will be sorely missed by his many friends from his church and community.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at St. Peters AME Church, 38 Stewart Place, Shippensburg, PA with Rev. Walter Reed officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
