Eugene W. Chestnut

Eugene W. Chestnut, “Gassy”, 74, of Newville, died Friday, November 3, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Carlisle, he was the son of the late Fred and Gloria (Foster) Chestnut and the husband of 30 years to Cindy (Wright) Chestnut.

Gene was a car fanatic. He was not only a top-notch mechanic and bodywork specialist, he enjoyed racing as well. Involved in drag racing, Gene won many trophies. #87 could also be found racing stock cars.

What brought Gene the most joy was his family. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his son: Douglas Chestnut, his wife, Christine; his daughters: Bonnie Hummel, her husband, Whalen, Tiah McKee, her husband, Brett, Mandy Mixell, her husband, Johnny; his grandchildren: Cassidy Mcleaf, her husband, Mark, Nickolas Chestnut, Cecelia Zukauckas, her husband, Zachary, Billie Heishman, her husband, Dalton, Drew and Coral McKee, Kayla Kennedy, her fiancé, Kyle, Jayden Mixell; his five great grandchildren: Carter, Carly, Carmen, Drake and Teagan; his brother: Larry Chestnut and his sisters: Maxine Shearer, her husband, Cliff, Cindy Knarr and Charlene Thorson, her husband, Greg.

Gene was preceded in death by his great granddaughter: Everleigh Grace Rhoads.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service 1 PM Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W, Trindle Road, Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 11 AM prior to the service.

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
