Eugene J. “Gene” Gaughan, age 84, of Carlisle, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 8, 1932 in Olyphant, PA to the late James S. and Mary (Stanton) Gaughan.
Gene retired from the PA State Police as a Corporal after 34 years of dedicated service. He was a graduate of the PA State Police Academy and a member of their rodeo team. He received an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from HACC. Gene also proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the Army. He was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle.
He is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Elaine T. (Simpson) Gaughan of Carlisle; one son, Michael (wife Susan) Gaughan of Carlisle; two daughters, Susan E. (husband Bradley) Kordes of Carlisle and Sharon A. Gaughan and fiancé Daniel Carton of Manassas, VA; six grandchildren, Molly, Lexxi, Allison, Joshua, Ashley and Spencer; and one great-grandson, Noah. In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Joseph and John Gaughan and one sister, Mary L. Watson.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey as Celebrant. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Full military honors will be provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard following Mass.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
