Esther W. Humphrey, 92, of Carlisle, formerly of Perry, NY, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at her home.
Born June 12, 1920 in Clifton Springs, NY, she was a daughter of the late James and Margaret Wilson Walsh and the widow of Hayden Humphrey.
She became a senior scholar at Dickinson College after moving to Carlisle. She was a member of the Carlisle Barracks Spouses Club. Esther enjoyed playing bridge, shopping, and going out to lunch with her many friends. She also enjoyed traveling to attend plays, sightsee and visit museums.
Surviving are one daughter, Ella Jean Nichols of Carlisle; two granddaughters, Jennifer Silverman (and husband, Brandon) and Lisa Hathcox both of Carlisle; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Keenan (and husband, Michael) of Massachusetts; and six great-grandchildren: Justin, Cassandra, Hayden, Christopher, Oscar, and Damon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayden Humphrey; one daughter, Anne Humphrey; four brothers; and one sister.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Mary Queen of Peace Chapel, Carlisle Barracks with CH (Col) Gregory J. D’Emma as celebrant. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday February 1, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle.
