Esther Pearl Rankin

Esther Pearl Minich Rankin, 97, of One West Penn, Carlisle passed away January 20, 2017.
Born December 28, 1919 in North Middleton Twp., she was the daughter of the late John H. Minich and Rosie N. Brown Minich Miller and the last surviving sibling of eight children.
Esther was the widow of Edwin M. Rankin Sr., who passed away in 1989, five months short of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Early in life she had worked at the Carlisle Barracks where she met her husband. After her four children were married and had left home, she was employed by Forest Park Health Center and Rehabilitation where she retired in 1984.
Esther was a member of the former First United Methodist Church, Carlisle which is now known as Carlisle United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo and other games.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley E. (and husband Edd) Nickle of Carlisle; two sons, Edwin M. (and wife Bonnie) Rankin Jr. and Kenneth L. Rankin both of Carlisle; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by a daughter Karen (and her husband Donald) Brinton; a daughter-in-law, Carol A. Rankin; a great-grandson, Timothy M. Sheaffer Jr.; six brothers Charles B., E. Erle, John E., LeRoy W. "Butch", Irvin E. and Ray C. Minich; a sister Barbara F. Schlusser; a stepbrother, Emerson Miller and a stepsister, Lillie Adams.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Waggoner's United Methodist Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Esther to Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 South West St., Carlisle, PA 17013 or Cumberland Goodwill EMS, 519 South Hanover Street Carlisle, PA 17013.
