Esther M. “Mae” Cleland, 89, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community.
She was born July 30, 1931 in Landisburg to the late John V. and Rosie (Moore) Reisinger and was the widow of John Newton Cleland who passed away in 1982.
Esther enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her family who she loved so much. She faithfully attended Reibers Reformed Baptist Church in Shermansdale for most of her life.
Esther is survived by two children, Kathleen (husband Earl) Gayman of Newville and David (wife Brenda) Cleland of Carlisle; three siblings, William (wife Verna) Reisinger of Carlisle, Martha (husband James) Bolze of Landisburg, and Lin (husband Robert) Sheaffer of Shermansdale; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cleland of Landisburg; six grandchildren, Bradley (husband Jonathan) Cleland of Mechanicsburg, Eric (wife Rose) Cleland of Carlisle, Nathan (wife Nancy) Cleland of Shermansdale, Melissa (husband Kevin) Barnhart of Carlisle, Erica (husband Justin) Wallace of Enola, and Megan (husband Brian) Boyer of Carlisle; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Esther was preceded in death by one son, Leon Cleland and one brother, James Reisinger.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Reibers Reformed Baptist Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013. As mandated by Governor Wolfe, maximum capacity during gatherings is restricted and you may be asked to wait at the door when you arrive until the numbers allow for your entrance.
