Esther Myrle "Becky" Bushey, age 96, of Carlisle, passed away April 25, 2016.
She was born October 19, 1919 in Lime Ridge, PA to the late Grier and Elizabeth Leighow Bredbenner and was the widow of Richard W. Bushey.
Becky was Valedictorian of the Scott Township High School class of 1938 and graduated from the Germantown Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She worked at the Carlisle Hospital from 1941-1944, worked as a private duty nurse from 1955-1960 and worked at Dickinson College from 1960-1982. She was named Head of Health Services in 1964 and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1982. Becky was a member of the PA Nurses Association, Graduate Nurses Club of Cumberland County, the Mary Dickinson Club and the Whirlaways and Skirts & Flirts square dance clubs.
She is survived by her children, Carol M. (and husband Don) Fuchs of Cuba, MO and Richard D. (and wife Margi) Bushey of Carlisle; six grandchildren, Michelle (and husband Tom) Mahoney, D.J. (and wife Emily) Fuchs, Tim (and wife Jennifer) Fuchs, Michael (and wife Carol) Bushey, Sarah Bushey and Elizabeth Bushey; eight great-grandchildren, Tommy, Maggie and Devin Mahoney, Bradley Fuchs, Cameron Fuchs and Allison, Evelyn and Sophia Bushey; sister, Janet Croop of Columbus, OH; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Bushey of Santa Barbara, CA. In addition to her parents and husband, Becky was preceded in death by six sisters, three brothers and one brother-in-law.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. West Street, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Lois K. Van Orden officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Esther's name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive Tampa, FL 33607 or Brigham and Women's Hospital Division of Preventive Medicine Women's Health Study, 900 Commonwealth Ave. East Boston, MA 02215-1204.
