Ernest P. Downin Sr.

Ernest P. Downin Sr., 75, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Manor Care Health Services.
He was born May 15, 1944 in McConnellsburg to the late Paul Edgar and Lois Lillian (Barrick) Downin.
Ernest worked as a carpet binder at C.H. Masland and Sons for over 40 years before his retirement. He loved meeting people and playing cards at FOE Aerie 1299 and The White Circle Club where he was a member.
Ernest is survived by three sons, Robert (wife Barbara) Downin of Lanexa, VA, Ernest Paul Jr. (Stacy) Downin of Newport, and Michael (wife Barb) Downin of Ickesburg; two grandchildren, Cheyanne and Dalton Downin; two brothers, Earl (wife Betty) Downin and Alan Downin both of McConnellsburg; one sister, Mary Jane Hammond of Carlisle; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Edgar Paul, Kenny and Paul Downin; one grandson Joshua P. Downin; and his brother-in-law, Henry Hammond.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Robert L. Mentzer officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
