Elwood Irvin “Woody” Lanious, 89, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle.
He was born July 15, 1929 in Columbia, PA to the late Chester and Isabelle Lee (Hedges) Lanious and was the widower of Mary Katharine (Hefflefinger) Lanious.
Elwood was a man of great faith. He was a member of Faith Chapel where he served as a deacon. Woody served on the Children’s Evangelical Foundation board for 30 years. He loved camping and collectable cars. Elwood was employed by Marty’s Auto Sales as a mechanic for over 50 years before his retirement.
He is survived by three children, Gary (wife Anita) Lanious, Sharan (husband Harry) Snyder, and Daniel (wife Tammy) Lanious all of Carlisle; two sisters, Isabelle Lee “Peg” Forney of Texas; eight grandchildren, Chris, Ben, Ruth, Brandi, Ethan, Hannah, Dakota and Coree all of Carlisle and three great-grandchildren, Jade, Emma and Madelyn. In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, Woody was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn, Helen and Dorothy and three brothers, Chester, Horace and Kenneth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Michael J. Mayer D.D. officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elwood to Juvenile Diabetes, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Eastern PA Chapter, 210 Woods Road, Palmerton, PA 18071.
