Ellen Magdalene Raymer, 87, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at Carlisle
Regional Medical Center with her loving son Todd, by her side.
She was born in January 1929, in Kuressaare, Estonia, and was the daughter of Alfred and Emilie Rosenstein.
Ellen and her family immigrated to Schwabish Hall, Germany in 1939 where she lived during
World War II. In September of 1949, she and her sister Senta immigrated to the United States
to begin new lives. In addition to being a housewife and the loving mother of three sons, she
worked from home doing custom tailoring and sewing, as well as custom made sewn gift
items. She also worked as a needlepoint designer for Needlemagic, Inc., prior to her
retirement.
Ellen was an avid reader, and went to the library every other week in search of new books.
She also loved to putter around in her greenhouse and yard, and loved planting flowers and
veggies in her garden. She loved the outdoors and liked to take walks in local parks when the
weather was nice. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and seeking out bargains or things
that she could add her creative touch to and then give them to her friends and family. When
not outdoors, she liked to make homemade greeting cards, knit and crochet, do needlepoint,
and make other "crafty" things. She also liked to draw and paint, and play games with friends
and family or on her computer. One of her favorite things to do during the colder months was
to put together jigsaw puzzles, of which she had quite the assortment. Ellen loved teddy
bears and gnomes and had sizable collections of both. She also loved chocolate, and, most
importantly, she loved her family.
Ellen is survived by three sons, Roy Tellason of Palmyra, PA, John Ryan of Fairview, OR,
and Todd Raymer (and wife, Deana) of Carlisle, PA.; her Husky-mix, Cody; one sister, Joy
Esposito of Yonkers, NY; one niece, Rosalie Meredith (and husband Stephen) of Olathe,
KS; one great-nephew, Derek Meredith (and wife Rachel), of Almont, MI; two
granddaughters, Chelsea Suskind, of Portland OR, and Katlyn Ryan of Vancouver, WA; one
grandson, Roy Tellason, Jr (and wife Lisa), of Long Island NY; and several great-grandchildren
and great-grand-nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Raymer; two sisters, Ally Mitt and Senta
Maguire; and her parents, Alfred and Emilie Rosenstein.
