Elizabeth Stuart Rousek

March 6, 1920 — June 9, 2016

A woman of dignity and grace died Thursday, June 9th at the age of 96. Elizabeth Stuart Rousek was born in Lahore, India to General Douglas and Mrs. Stuart on March 6th, 1920. After a childhood in India and Australia Elizabeth traveled by ship to her parents' native England to attend boarding school where she reveled in sports of all types. During WWII she worked for the British M-I5 and met a young American solider named Charles Rousek. They married in London in 1942 and after a tour in Germany moved to the United States where Elizabeth shone as an active Army wife and accomplished tennis player and golfer. She and her children lived in Carlisle while her husband attended the War College and while he served in Korea. The couple retired to Hilton Head, South Carolina but tiring of the heat and wanting to be near family they returned to Carlisle. Elizabeth was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and loved her gardens on South St. As a widow she moved to Willow Valley in Lancaster and became a member of St. James' Episcopal Church. After a very full life of travel, family, entertaining and literature she passed away peacefully. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Anne Kennedy of Malvern, PA, her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Rousek of Carlisle, and her four granddaughters, Jennifer Ruby of Arlington, Texas; Elizabeth Rousek Ayers of Dillsburg, PA; Sarah Pryor of Austin, TX and Allison Rousek Marsigli of Raleigh, NC as well as her 13 great grandchildren. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Col. Charles Rousek and her son, Col. Charles Stuart Rousek.
Cremation is by Hoffman Funeral Home, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. The funeral service will be at St. James Episcopal Church, 119 N. Duke Street, Lancaster on Thursday, June 23rd at 2pm with Rev. Robert H. Schoeck officiating. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
