Elizabeth B. Smith

Elizabeth B. Smith, 79, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born April 13, 1944 in Johnstown to the late Clarence and Mary Elizabeth (Lindsay) Butterworth.

Elizabeth was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church. She served as a deacon, a stephen minister, and was a former Sunday school teacher. Elizabeth was involved with the Carlisle Junior Civic Club and acted as a big sister with the Big Brothers and Big Sister Club. She was a member of the Homemakers of America and the Alumni Association of Presbyterian University Hospital. Elizabeth was formerly employed as an RN at Carlisle Hospital. She was instrumental in the creation of the ICU at the hospital. She later managed Robins Flowers and was responsible for data entry at Capital Tax. Elizabeth enjoyed spending her free time gardening and caring for her flowers.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Brian W. Smith of Mt. Holly Springs; one son, David (wife Ans Marie) Smith of Herndon, VA; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (husband Travis) Inouye of Mechanicsville, MD; two grandchildren, Mason Smith and Lindsay Inouye; and one brother, Clarence E. “Ed” Butterworth of Carlisle.

A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive Carlisle, PA 17013. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. A private viewing for the family and extended family will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elizabeth to Second Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 528 Garland Drive Carlisle, PA 17013.
