Edgar (Edd) F. Nickle, 84, of Carlisle passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill. Born December 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Murry Lee Nickle and Mary K. Brownewell Nickle. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Minich Nickle of Carlisle.
Also surviving are one son, Edward E. Nickle and wife Kathy of Shippensburg, two daughters Tammy J. Armold and husband John of Newville, and Kathy J. Bair of Newville. Edd is also survived by four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren. A sister Marlene Laughman, of Newville, and her companion Robert Armold also survive him. Edd was preceded in death by a sister Lauretta Russell, brothers Donald, Howard, Buddy, and Robert Nickle, his son-in-law Charles Bair III, step-daughter Sharon K. Sheaffer and step-grandson Timothy M. Sheaffer, Jr.
A graduate of Big Spring High School class of 1958, Edd served in the PA Army National Guard from 1960 to 1967 with a rank of SGT E5. He retired from the former AMP in Carlisle in 1998 after 32 years of service. He later worked part-time for the Redevelopment Authority and as a school bus driver for Fahrney Bus Company.
Edd was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church and a former member of the First United Methodist Church where he was very active. He loved Southern Gospel music and was a well-known bass singer. He was one of the original members of The Gabriels starting in 1968. He also sang with the Cornerstones, Jordan Valley Quartet, and the Good Shepherd Singers.
Edd also enjoyed spending time with his family and going to Florida and the beach.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, November 15 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013 with Revs. Richard Reese and Jake Waybright co-officiating. A viewing will be held beginning 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edd's memory to the Carlisle United Methodist Church, 333 S. Spring Garden Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or to a charity of your choice.
