Earl H. Peters, age 82, of Gardners, died Tuesday, May 2, 2018, at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle Hospital.
Earl was born in Gardners, PA on November 2, 1935 to the late John B. and Mary Eugenia (Koller) Peters, and was the widower of the late Janet Peters (nee Wolf), who passed away October 13, 2009. They were married 40 years at the time of her passing.
Earl may be most recognized as co-owner of his family’s multi-generational business, Peters Orchards, where he was active as the market’s retail manager, where he relished his time spent educating the public. His family knows him as a lover of nature, exploring his family’s farm, and interpreting all the flowers, plants, rocks, and animals as telling the stories of the Earth. Stories he would impart to his farm’s customers every day. In his younger days, Earl served in the U.S. Army in Germany during peacetime. As well, Earl and Janet were longtime active members of the former Allison United Methodist Church, in Carlisle. He was a lover of classical music, but most of all, he loved his family.
Earl is survived by: sons E. David Peters (and wife Katie), and Phillip W. Peters; daughter Barbara Darr (and husband Duane); brothers John F. Peters (and wife Mary), William K. Peters (and wife Shelbia), and George M. Peters (and wife Mary Lou); sisters Susan B. R. Wirths, and Virginia P. Aires (and husband Randolf); and five beloved granddaughters. In addition to his wife and parents, Earl is preceded in death by his sister Mary Sandels.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S West St, Carlisle, with Reverend Dr. Paul L. Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, in Carlisle.
