Earl C. Brownawell, 93, of Carlisle died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born March 14, 1921 in Shermans Dale, a son of the late William C. and Minnie M. Sheriff Brownawell.
He worked for Locust Point Stone Quarry, Mechanicsburg, Pennsy Supply, Harrisburg, and Kimbob Paving Co., Harrisburg for thirty years where he retired. After retirement Earl worked for Carroll Township Supervisors for eighteen years. He was a life member of International Union of Operating Engineers. He liked to hunt and enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-eight years, Gertrude L. Brownawell of Carlisle; one sister Betty Rhoads (and husband, Lee) of Carlisle; and three brothers, Jess Brownawell of Bedford, Robert Brownawell Dale (and wife, Lois) of Shermans Dale and David Brownawell (and wife, Phyllis) of Shermans Dale. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Sam, John, Paul, Charles, and George; four sisters, Goldie, Mary, Mildred, and Helen and one son, Earl Eugene.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Chaplain James Link officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2014 and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
