E. Anita Louise Shires

E. Anita Louise Shires, 83, of Boiling Springs was called home to her heavenly father on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.

Born on November 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late O. Carl and Margaret (Greenawald) Linde. She was the loving wife of Richard William Shires. They would have shared 63 years of marriage on June 3, 2019.

Anita received an Associates degree from Harrisburg Area Community College. She was previously a Teacher’s Aide at Capital Area Intermediate Unit.

She was an active member of the First United Church of Christ, Carlisle, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and a volunteer at the Thornwald Nursing Home Auxiliary. Anita was an avid reader, excellent cook and fabulous hostess. She enjoyed entertaining, sports (Penn State was her favorite team), camping, the outdoors and hosting tailgating events.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of 62 years; daughters, April Messenger (husband John) of Newville; Tami Diehl (husband Bill) of Newville; sisters, Geraldine Yarnall of Allentown, Carole Lyon of Moncks Corner, SC, and Radelle Guth of Allentown; grandchildren, Zachary (wife Izzy) Messenger of Knightdale, NC, Ethan (wife Kalee) Messenger of Chambersburg; and Elias Diehl of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren, Logan and Sadie Messenger and a great-granddaughter due in May; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Carl Maynard Linde and John A. Linde.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 2:00pm at First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt Street, Carlisle PA 17013 with Rev. Rachel Schwab officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 1:00pm until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
