Douglas W. "Doug" Beery, 67 of Carlisle, died Saturday October 29, 2016 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Doug was born on February 12, 1949 in Buckhannon, WV, to the late Donald W. Beery and Lois V. Crites Beery, of Buckhannon, WV.
Doug retired after 31 years as maintenance supervisor at Pyrotek, Carlisle. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Carlisle. Doug was a Navy Seabee Veteran of the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive. He received the National Defense Medal, the Presidential Service Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and the Combat Operations Insignia. He served as Presidential Security for Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon. He was a lifetime member of the Dillsburg VFW Post #6771 and he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Surviving in addition to his mother, is his loving wife of 47 year, Carol Shellenberger Beery, Carlisle, his daughter, Angela Niswonger, and husband Bob, of Carlisle, a granddaughter, Makenna Niswonger, who's smile always brightened his day.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday November 5, 2016, at the First United Church of Christ, 30 S. Pitt St., Carlisle PA 17013, with the Rev. Chris Schwab officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be a visitation from 10:00 am Saturday, until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, family request memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA, 745 West Governor Road, Hershey, PA 17033
