Douglas E. Koontz , 59, of Boise, Idaho, passed away July 6, 2011. A former resident of Carlisle, Doug was born on Oct. 19, 1951, at Carlisle Barracks Station Hospital.
He was a son of the late John B. and Frances Koontz. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Ronald.
Doug was a graduate of Carlisle High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and worked as a roofer for 20 years during civilian life. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - deep-sea fishing in his younger days, watching NASCAR on TV, and how he loved steamed clams and lobster. It was a pleasure watching him eat! Doug had a wonderful sense of humor and he will be truly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are a sister, Brenda (Richard) Waltimyer and a brother, John. Other survivors include one aunt and various cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special friends surviving him in Boise include Linda, Gale and Jimmy.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle with the Rev. Dale Barrick officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
There will be a viewing Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service.
