Dorothy M. Hostetter, 95, of Carlisle, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle due to natural causes.
She was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1926, in the home of her grandmother, Susan Hess, in Lyndon, PA. Dorothy was the eldest of six children born to the late Mark Hess and Beulah E. (Hershey) Hostetter.
The Hostetter family attended the Lancaster Christian Missionary and Alliance Church.
She worked for several years at Armstrong Cork Company after her graduation from Manheim Township high school until the fall of 1949 when she enrolled in The Missionary Training Institute in Nyack, NY. Dorothy completed her studies at the Missionary Training Institute and graduated from the diploma course in 1952. That fall Dorothy began working as a Rural Bible Teacher for the NEF working in Maine in the triangular area of Belfast, Waterville, and Bowdoinham. In the fall of 1957 Dorothy returned to Nyack College to complete her bachelor’s degree in Christian Education.
Dorothy had been involved in ministry for 42 years. She began as an employee of the Alliance Home, now Chapel Point and retired in 1992. At that time she became a resident.
Dorothy enjoyed cross stitching and sewing and was passionate about writing and reading. She even had a book published. Dorothy’s real gift was service to others, she loved faithfully serving the Lord, Chapel Pointe, and her family.
Dorothy is survived by two sisters-in-law, Gladys Hostetter of Ephrata and Shirley Stoner of California. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her six siblings, Anna, Elizabeth, Gloriann, Douglas, Floyd, and Florence. She also lost two brothers early in childhood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Chaplain Linda Slusser officiating. Burial will follow in Letort Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
