Dorothy M. (Rende) Ellis, age 81, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 17, 1935, in Rutherford, PA, to the late Ralph and Rose (Fure) Rende.
Dot was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a gifted cook. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, and especially loved shopping. She enjoyed doing crafts and once built a dollhouse that her granddaughters enjoyed playing with. Dot looked forward to family and friends' parties where she loved to dance. She traveled to Europe, Hawaii, and many states to visit her daughter and family. Dot was a very hardworking lady who was especially good with details, facts, and figures. She worked in payroll for over a decade for both Daily Express and Keen Leasing the latter from which she retired in 1998.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald C. Ellis of Carlisle; two children Debra A Byron (and fiancé Richard Beers) of Beavercreek, OH and Donald R. (and wife Michelle) Ellis of Carlisle; three sisters, Mary Popp of Boston, MA, Grace Kepp of Bressler, and Amelia Miller of Hershey; four grandchildren, Cydney (and husband Matt) Evans, James C. (and wife Leanne) Byron, Houston Ellis, and Rachel Ellis; and two great-granddaughters, Ava Mossbarger and Addison Byron. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Ralph Rende, and two sisters, Evelyn Farner and Jennie Parsch.
The family would like to thank the entire team of health care professionals at Transitions at Claremont for the dedicated and compassionate care they gave Dot during both of her stays there.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. There will be a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
