Doris J. Wagner, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, April 17 at UPMC Carlisle Hospital at the age of 79 while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Harvey E. Sheaffer, Jr. and Mildred (Warner) Sheaffer. She was the loving wife of Ira “Sonny” Wagner, Sr.
Jeanie worked many years for the Church of God Home in Carlisle as Assistant Dietary Manager and Cook. She later retired in 2002. She was a member of the Dietary Managers Association of Pennsylvania where she served as President and Secretary at the state, district, and regional levels. Many who knew her were appreciative of her strong work ethic.
Jeanie was a member of the former Wesleyan Church of the Cross, in Carlisle. She was known for her easy-going personality, and she particularly enjoyed horses, square dancing, and time spent with family.
Surviving with her husband are sisters Pauline Calaman (husband Leon), Betty J. Cornman (late husband Melvin), Donna M. Calaman (late husband Dennis), and Darlene Monismith (husband Melvin), all of Carlisle. Several grandchildren and step-children also survive her. Jeanie was preceded in death by her infant brother Kevin Sheaffer.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle with Rev. Gerry Beers officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Letort Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeanie’s memory to Wellspring Wesleyan Church, 430 “B” Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
