Doris S. Rutz

Doris S. Rutz, 91, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Thornwald Nursing Home.
She was born May 6, 1928 in Mechanicsburg to the late J. Paul and Margaret (DeVenney) Shatto and was the widow of Leon F. “Pete” Rutz.
Doris was formerly employed by Earl Keller as a tax collector. She was a long time, active member of First United Church of Christ.
Doris is survived by two sons, Barry L. (wife Bonnie) Rutz of Carlisle, and Donald L. (wife Linda) Rutz both of Carlisle; one daughter, Deborah A. (husband James Jr.) Mentzer of Newville; one sister, Margaret Louise Rider of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Heather (husband Neil) Darhower of Carlisle, Mark (wife Taylor) Rutz of Mt. Holly Springs, Ben (wife Lexi) Rutz of Carlisle, Austin (wife Carrie) Rutz of NYC, NY, and Aaron (wife Corynne) Rutz of Boiling Springs; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah and Alyson Darhower, Connor, Logan, Ellie and Jack Rutz. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Douglas E. Rutz and one brother, Richard P. Shatto.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019 at First United Church of Christ, 30 North Pitt Street Carlisle, PA 17013 with Pastor Rachel H. Schwab officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
