Doris L. "Dot" Thomas

Doris L. “Dot” Thomas, age 87, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at Transitions at Claremont, Carlisle.
She was born November 15, 1929 in Mechanicsburg to the late William E. and Mary Louise (Boyles) Brown.
In addition to being a first-class homemaker, Doris retired after over 21 years as a burler at Masland Carpet. In her free time, she loved to travel on bus trips and cruises, was an avid bowler, tended to her flower garden, and made the best chicken pot pie you’ve ever tasted. She was a longtime active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg, as well as formerly a member of the Carlisle Moose Lodge, and the React Club at Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1299, Carlisle. Doris was the best gram there was to her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by: her husband, Austin L. Thomas; a son, Franklin L. (wife Phyllis) Thomas; a daughter, Cheryl L. Jumper; grandchildren, Rick, Kim, Shawn, Titus, and Faith; and great-grandchildren, Kane, Quinten, Alexis, Jayden, Addisyn, Linley, and Madden; as well as 2 brothers and 3 sisters. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by: a son, Leslie Thomas; son-in-law Fred E. Jumper; 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory - 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, with Rev. Michael Langford officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Churchtown. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris’s honor may be made to Homeland Hospice - 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 115, Harrisburg, PA 17110 and/or to Grace United Methodist Church - 216 S. Market Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
Doris’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Transitions at Claremont nursing team for taking such special care of Doris.
