Doris J. Jumper, 80, of Carlisle, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
Born July 8, 1930 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late John and Beulah Oiler Rynard and the widow of Carl E. Jumper.
Doris was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle. She was employed by Capital Area Intermediate Unit for many years as an instructional aide. Doris was dedicated to her family. She enjoyed spending time with them and loved cooking for them. She was an advocate and caregiver for her son, David with special needs as well as cared for her husband Carl and son Stephen for many years after their illnesses. She was an avid antique collector with her husband Carl, and they sold their wares at Northgate Antiques on North Hanover Street. She also enjoyed needle pointing. Doris also resided in Costa Mesa, California for seven years due to her husband’s employment and worked as an instructional aide in public school district. Doris enjoyed traveling with her friends. Later in life, Doris was asked to sum up her life and she did so by stating, “It was adventurous”.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Gorka of Carlisle, one son, Gregory Jumper of Boardman, OH, one, daughter-in-law, Judy Jumper-Harris of Quinton, VA, two brothers, Harold Rynard (and wife, Evelyn) of Carlisle and Donald Rynard (and wife, Beverly) of Carlisle, one sister, Joyce Potts (and husband, Jim) of Carlisle and six grandchildren: Michael Gorka of Bellefonte, Timothy Gorka of Erie, Ryan Jumper of Boardman, OH, Emily Jumper of Boardman, OH, Rachel Jumper of Quinton, VA and Benjamin Jumper of Quinton, VA. She was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Jumper and David Jumper and daughter-in-law, Linda Jumper.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 2, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, 64 East North Street, Carlisle with Rev. John L. Shellenberger, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
