Doris A. Prescott, age 86, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, PA.
She was born in Carlisle on April 30, 1929 to the late Charles W. and Emma M. (Cornman) Alexander and was the widow of the late Robert M. Prescott.
Doris graduated from Carlisle High School in 1947 and attended Mt. Sinai Nursing School in Philadelphia. She returned to Carlisle after her graduation in 1951 and attended Shippensburg University for a Master's Degree in School Nursing. She married Robert M. "Bob" Prescott on September 18, 1955 in Carlisle. Doris was employed at the Carlisle Hospital, C.H. Masland & Sons Carpet Manufacturing as a shift nurse and as a Private Duty nurse from 1951 to 1963. In order to be home more with her family she became a school nurse with the Carlisle School District, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service. Doris and Bob enjoyed traveling with their family and friends throughout their lives. When she had time, she enjoyed sewing and gardening and she also had a love for animals. Her greatest gift was a deep devotion for family and friends. She always made sure to be an active supporter of her family in whatever their endeavors. Without a doubt, Doris was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a loyal friend whose generosity was limitless. She will be remembered for her boundless energy, contagious wit and invaluable wisdom. In her own words Doris was "grateful for a wonderful life".
The family would like to express our gratitude to all the staff from the I.C.U. and 5th Floor of the West Shore Hospital for their amazing care that clearly was above and beyond their normal duties.
She is survived by two daughters, Marianne P. (and husband Gary) Smith and Judy L. Prescott, both of Carlisle; grandson, Nicholas Robert (and wife Penelope) Smith of China; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer (and husband James) Manos of Mechanicsburg and Joni (and husband Nicholas) Cadmus of Binghamton, NY; two step-great-granddaughters, Victoria and Taylor Manos; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Ebert" Alexander and her son-in-law, Christopher D. Thorpe.
