Donald Deforest Shultz, (Major, US Army Ret.), 90, of Carlisle, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at his daughter's residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born on April 22, 1924 in Galeton, PA to the late Henry D. and Leva Mayer Shultz and was the widower of Anna Marie Magyari Shultz who died on March 20, 2012. They had been married for 64 years.
Don proudly served his country for over 24 years in the United States Army serving in WWII and the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. During his time with Army, he received the following medals and citations; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; the Army Commendation Medal; a Purple Heart; a Bronze Star; the Meritorious Unit Citation; the Vietnam Campaign Medal and two Silver Bars. He also retired from Ralston Purina Co., Mechanicsburg, where he worked for over 10 years. He was a member of the Carlisle War College Chapel and volunteered at the chapel for over 30 years. Don was an avid stamp collector and gardener, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
He is survived by a son, Tom A. Shultz of Carlisle; a daughter, Susan E. Miller of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Brad Shultz, Jeff Miller and Amanda Shumberger; and two great-grandchildren, Adam and Karlee Miller. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the US Army War College Chapel with Chaplains Matthew Wysocki and Art Pace officiating. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA with full Military Honors. There will be a viewing Wednesday at the Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
