David M. Auger

September 7, 1979 — December 19, 2020

Beloved son, brother, husband, and father, David Marshall Auger, age 41, of Carlisle, died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest, and passed on into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at his home. He was born at Fort Ord, CA, on September 7, 1979, to John David Auger and Nickie Ann (Schmitt) Auger, of Carlisle, PA.

David had an easy smile and was a warm conversationalist. He was a natural athlete and a keen sports fan. A huge supporter of the Pitt Panthers, David graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in history. He later went on to earn an MBA from Lebanon Valley College. A hard-working, dedicated employee at Giant Food Stores, LLC, David relished his role as Manager of Strategic Pricing. He also taught courses at Central Penn College.

A devout Christian, David tried to live and exemplify his faith to friends and family. He was always ready with a helping hand: moving heavy furniture, assisting with renovation projects, clearing the snow off relatives’ sidewalks — as well as important community service work with the U.S. Food Bank, Harrisburg. David was an active member of Grace Baptist Church, through which he did prison ministry, taught Bible studies, taught Sunday School, led services at the Sarah Todd Home, and preached on occasion in local churches. David was also a board member of the Christian School of Grace Baptist, where his children went to school.

Most of all, David’s heart was always with his children. Cheering at all their sports games, practicing with them in the yard, playfully roughhousing with them in the family room, David was a proud and affectionate father, supporting his children 110%. If David wasn’t working, he was with his children, whom he loved devotedly.

David had a special spark; he took joy in spending time with and listening to others. He will always be loved deeply, and he will be missed immensely.

David is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 14 years, Amy L. Rhinesmith Auger and their three children: Seth M., Tristan D., and Haley M. of Carlisle. His parents, John and Nickie Auger, Carlisle; four brothers, John N. Auger (wife Mary), VA, Matthew W. Auger, U.K., Nickolas A. Auger, PA, Daniel E. Auger (wife Yan), IL; six sisters, Tanya D. Auger (husband Andy Kuan), MA, Natalie A. Altvater (husband David), VA, Allison M. Auger (husband Matthew Brindle), PA, Tamara L. Auger (husband Samuel Wagner), MD, Valerie R. Auger (husband Robert Rome), TX, Vanessa E. Auger, Namibia. Also surviving are his father- and mother-in-law, Gordon and Nancy Rhinesmith, Carlisle, sister-in-law Kristin A. Cross (husband Chris), SC, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 1 PM at Grace Baptist Church, 777 W. North Street, Carlisle, PA with his pastor, Reverend John Miller officiating. Guests may arrive at 12:30 PM to greet the family. Internment will be held at Westminster Cemetery.
