Dale E. Herr, 65, of Carlisle died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Forest Park Health Center after a courageous and prolonged battle with Lewy body dementia.
Born Nov. 27, 1946, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Arthur S. and Harriet E. Cohick Herr.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Dickinson College and a master's degree in counseling from Shippensburg University. Dale had a career working in computer programming and systems analysis.
Dale was an intense person whose wife was the love of his life. He was passionate about long-distance cycling, college football (Penn State) and college basketball (North Carolina Tar Heels). He loved all genres of music, especially classical.
Dale loved his church and was a serious scholar of the Bible, especially the Book of Isaiah. He hated baseball.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Lisbeth Ann Herr of Carlisle; his cat, Chester; one brother, Wayne (and wife, Ann) of Mt. Holly Springs; one sister, Martha Weston (and husband, Herb) of Carlisle; one sister-in-law, Joyce Herr of Cary, N.C.; four nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold E. Herr.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle Springs, with the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Lindenmeyer officiating. A private burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle, PA 17013; or the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
The family appreciates the loving care Dale received from Dr. John Mira, Celtic Healthcare Hospice and the Chapelwood staff at Forest Park Health Center, especially Gretchen and Luella.
