Col. Robert C. Park USAMC (Ret.), age 83, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in Silver Spring, MD.
He was born on March 28, 1932 in Carlisle, PA to the late Harold E. and Ruth Green Park and the widower of Marjorie McGinnes Park, to whom he was married for 60 years.
He was a retired Army physician/surgeon and served for 35 years. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Franklin & Marshall College, and Hahnemann Medical School. He interned at the Lower Bucks Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. He then enlisted in the United States Army and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. After several postings and a tour of duty in Vietnam, Dr. Park completed his Gynecology-Oncology Fellowship at Walter Reed Hospital. Eventually, he was promoted to Chief of Ob-Gyn at Walter Reed Hospital. Additionally, he served as a consultant to the Surgeon General of the United States Army. He was actively involved in many medical/professional organizations. He was very proud to have been the first active duty military officer to serve as the President of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
He is survived by a daughter, Susan E. Park of Chestertown, MD; a son, John R. Park of Silver Spring, MD; a sister, Dorothy (and husband Henry) Szymanski of Solomons, MD; a sister-in-law, Ruth Park of State College, PA; many nieces, nephews, good friends and close colleagues. He was preceded in death by a brother, William H. Park and son-in-law, Robert J. Hooey.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Westminster Cemetery, 1159 Newville Road, Carlisle with Rev. Daniel L. Dennis officiating. There will be a viewing at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Wednesday prior to the graveside services.
