Col Neil Scherer Hock (Ret)

Neil Scherer Hock, 82, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Green Ridge Village.
He was born March 21, 1936 in Richmond, VA to the late William and Alberta (Scherer) Hock.
Colonel Hock was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant from the ROTC program of the College of William and Mary where he served as Cadet Commander. Neil served 3 tours in Vietnam resulting in a Purple Heart, as well as, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation. The majority of his 30-year military career was served in Military Intelligence including Tactical Intelligence and Foreign Area Specialist Northeast Asia. During his career, Colonel Hock was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak cluster and the Parachutist Badge. Colonel Hock graduated from the US Army War College where he also served as an Instructor and was the recipient of the General Omar N Bradley Chair of Corresponding Studies.
Neil is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kay N. Hock of Carlisle; two daughters, Kelly (husband Courtney) Canova of Florida, and Karen (husband Geoff) Shipper of Florida; three step-children, Matthew (wife Robin) Vucic of Chestnut Hill, Michael (wife Rachel) Vucic of Lancaster, and Sarah (husband James) Waller of Hershey; and seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William Hock Jr.
Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Neil to Green Ridge Village c/o Chapelwood, 210 Big Spring Road Newville, PA 17241.
