Chloe Marie Hoch Hair, 96, of Carlisle, died Friday, September 13 at Cumberland Crossings. Born February 11, 1917, in the Plainfield area, she was a daughter of the late Marguerite Jane (Stouffer) and Herman Felix Hoch. She was the widow of Frank L. Hair, her husband of 58 years, who died November 3, 1994.
Chloe graduated from Carlisle High School in 1934. She worked for several years as an office manager, photograph retoucher/painter, and portrait model for the Guth Photography Studio in Carlisle. After her marriage, she devoted her life to being a homemaker for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a passion for music, and one of her greatest joys in life was attending her children's and grandchildren's music performances. Also, she was known for her warm hospitality as hostess to extended family gatherings during the holidays and summer pool parties. Her family and friends always will remember her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit.
Chloe was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, where she served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and participated in Presbyterian Women mission projects. She was a past member of Shippensburg University Faculty Wives.
She is survived by two daughters, Dianne M. Kronenberg and her husband Edward of West Chester, and Mary Ann Bollinger and her husband G. Kip of Carlisle; four granddaughters, Kim Russell (Thomas) of West Chester; Crystal Fields (James) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Melissa Ott (Timothy) of Hollidaysburg, and Amy Kappeler (Lloyd) of Carlisle; five great-grandchildren, Jeni Fields, Derek Fields, Madeline Russell, Jacob Ott, and Chloe Kappeler; a sister, Betty J. Miller of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Hair, in 1976, and a brother, Donald H. Hoch, in 2013.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, at Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle, with the Rev. Jennifer McKenna officiating. A repast and visitation will follow the service in the church rotunda. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 219 North Hanover Street Carlisle, PA.
