Lt. Col. (USMC Ret.) Charles E. Swisher

Lt. Col. (USMC Ret.) Charles E. Swisher, 84, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Church of God Home.

He was born March 28, 1939, in Lewistown, PA to the late Harold S. and Margaret (Goodwin) Swisher.

Charles honorably served his country in the USMC. His service began when he enlisted in 1957, included 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, and ended when he retired, 30 years later, as a Lieutenant Colonel. Charles accomplished many things during his career and earned many decorations including the Navy Commendation Ribbon with Combat V, the Presidential Unit Commendation, and many, many more. After his military retirement, Charles worked as a personnel director for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, and fishing. Trout populations in the Yellow Breeches are expected to increase in his absence. Charles was a 1957 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was a gifted athlete and was proud to have competed in the Little League World Series. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Marine Corps League, and the Carlisle Alliance Church. Charles was a man of great faith which he credited for carrying him through many tough times during his 84 years. He will also be remembered by many for his friendship, generosity, teaching, and mentoring.

Charles entrusted his soul to Jesus and would encourage you to read his words and do the same.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Satsuki H. Swisher of Carlisle; three children, Lisa Villanueva of Newport, PA, Charles (wife Donna) Swisher of Lee's Summit, MO, and Jason Swisher of Carlisle, PA; five grandchildren, Ashley McDermott, Charlsee Swisher, Kenzi Kapp, Miles Kapp, and Sakura Swisher; one great-granddaughter, Mara Kampel; and one sister, Carole Campbell of Lewistown, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and John Swisher.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Carlisle Alliance Church, 237 East North Street Carlisle, PA 17013 with Pastors Dave Monreal and Timothy Keller co-officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to Community Cares, 50 West Penn Street Carlisle, PA 17013.
