Charles “Chuck” E. McMurdy III passed away in the early hours of February 10, 2025 surrounded by “his girls”: his wife of 33 years, Amy McMurdy and his two daughters, Megan and Kelly McMurdy. He is survived by his wife, Amy McMurdy; his daughters, Megan McMurdy (Spouse Trent George) and Kelly McMurdy; his father, Charles E. McMurdy II; his brother, Scott McMurdy (wife Daneen and children Jacob and Cayla); his mother-in-law, Jayne Taylor, and his aunt, Carol Brace. He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia McMurdy, and his uncle, Glenn McMurdy.

Chuck grew up right outside of Pittsburgh, PA. He attended Plum High School which is where he met his wife in a typing class. They started out as friends, but began dating in their last years of college. They later married and raised two beautiful and intelligent daughters together.

Chuck was an electrical engineer and received his degree in engineering from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. His engineering career started out in the steel industry working for Lukens and Bethlehem Steel. Chuck and his family moved to Carlisle, PA for him to begin work at PPG industries, which later became Vitro Architectural Glass. He has worked there for over two decades.

Anyone who knows Chuck, knows that he had a hard time sitting still. If he wasn't at work, you could find him working on his home. Depending on the time of year, he was landscaping or gardening, working on cars, upgrading/updating something in the house, or wood-working.

Chuck loved being handy. He was “Mr. Fix It”. If he didn’t know how to, you can bet he researched it until he figured it out.

He was an avid reader. His preference of books being a first-person account of the Vietnam War or Zombie Apocalypse novels. Chuck loved music, specifically 70s/80s rock.

He was an animal whisperer and loved all animals that crossed his path. His dogs, Maggie, Mickey, and Mac were another source of great joy for him. His daughters' cats also held a special place in his heart.

Chuck loved all the Pittsburgh sports teams. He was especially fond of watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chuck’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family. They meant the most to him. He specifically cherished the memories from family vacations to the Outer Banks, NC.

Chuck was a dedicated, loyal husband, father, brother, son, and employee. He valued hard work, kindness, and family. Chuck is a shining example of what a person should be. He battled his cancer bravely for his girls. His family will miss him greatly and will continue to honor him by walking in his footsteps with hard work, kindness, and love for family.

Per his last wishes, there will be a private graveside ceremony at a later date.
