Charles Leroy Schoffstall

Charles Leroy “Jim” Schoffstall, age 85, of Newville, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1932 in Adams County to the late Leroy and Ellen Mae Elizabeth (Miller) Schoffstall.
Charles retired from Carlisle Tire & Rubber as a Project Technician after 48 years of service. He also owned Charlie’s Richfield gas station. He loved race cars, bowling, antiques and antiquing, camping, family trips to area caverns, hiking and collecting Fisher Price toys. Charles was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America of Huntsdale Troop 185, where he was a Scout Leader and Commissioner. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Carlisle. Charles had a tremendous love for his wife and family and especially enjoyed spending Sundays with them.
He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Alice E. (Weaver) Schoffstall of Newville; three sons, Ellis D. Schoffstall of Guatemala, Galen C. (wife Elaine) Schoffstall of Nanticoke, MD and James E. (wife Heather) Schoffstall of Lynchburg, VA; three daughters, Patricia L. Schoffstall of State College, Vicki M. (husband Barry) Luckenbaugh of Shermans Dale and Donna K. (husband Roy) Wilson of Carlisle; a sister, Lois Weigle of Heidlersburg; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by four sisters and an infant great-granddaughter, Kayla Hetrick.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Rachel Schwab officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services.
